The WILL program enhances
women's EKU experience through
- Academic work in Women's Studies, leading to a certificate
or minor in Women's Studies
- Programming that brings successful, interesting women to campus
- A student-run leadership organization
- Internship opportunities
- The opportunity to live with women who share your
interests in a WILL residential living-learning community
The WILL Curriculum
Each WILL member will complete
a minimum of 12 credit hours of Women's Studies courses, including:
- Introduction to Women's Studies
- Feminist Theory
- Two Women's Studies Electives
Courses in Women's Studies provide
WILL students with common intellectual backgrounds and analytical frameworks
with which to examine gender roles and relationships. Many of these courses
simutaneously fulfill other University requirements and all WILL students
earn a Certificate in Women's Studies.
The Co-Curricular Component
The WILL program will sponsor
events such as lectures, workshops, panels, plays, and musical performances.
All WILL programs will be open to the community. WILL students will also
have the opportunity to meet with these speakers and performers to discuss
the vistors' lives, work, and ideas. These "fireside chats" will allow
WILL students to test their knowledge, to challenge themselves and one
another, and to meet people with diverse experiences and perspectives.
These co-curricular events complement students' classroom learning and
link the academic experience to what goes on outside of the class.
The WILL Student Organization
All WILL students will belong
to a student organization that offers formal and informal opportunities
for leadership. Monthly membership meetings, student committees, and an
elected executive board allow members to participate actively in the organization.
Students will have an opportunity to plan events, discuss social issues,
and influence the development of the WILL program itself.
The WILL Residential Living-Learning
Community
WILL students will have an
opportunity to reside on campus on a WILL only floor. Living in the WILL
community will enable participants to further develop their personal and
working relationships. The WILL residential community could provide space
for WILL student meetings, fireside chats, and WILL social gatherings.
